The Y offers a variety of Teen Safety and Teen Enrichment classes that will help prepare teens for a healthier and safer future.
YMCA BABYSITTING TRAINING
Ages 11 & Older
- Learn how to interview for a babysitting job
- Gain leadership and communication skills
- Learn developmental stages of a child
- Learn fun activities and importance of sticking to a routine
- Gain safety tips and basic first aid knowledge
Must attend entire course. Participants receive a manual and certificate upon completion. Please bring a bag lunch.

Y TEEN FITNESS EDUCATION
Youth & teen participants will gain fitness knowledge, character development, guidance, and encouragement to help them develop and realize their potential.
BASIC TEEN FITNESS ORIENTATION
This 1 hour orientation is a requirement for 12-13 year olds before utilizing the Cardio and Strength equipment in the Fitness Center. Teens will learn basic exercise principles, proper technique, and safety considerations. This is offered free to Y members. Sign up in the Business Office!
ADVANCED TEEN FITNESS ORIENTATION
This 1 hour orientation is a requirement for 14-15 year olds before utilizing the Free Weight equipment in the Fitness Center. Teens will learn proper technique and safety considerations with Free Weights. An overview of the Cardio and Strength circuit may be included as well. This is offered free to Y members. Sign up in the Business Office!
This program requires completion of four core courses. Each course requires ten hours of volunteer on-the-job Y training to develop leadership skills and personal responsibility. Teens that complete all courses will be eligible for a youth internship position at the Y. Contact the Waukesha YMCA with questions at 262-542-2557.
SPORTS AND RECREATION
Learn to lead safe practice sessions while demonstrating good sportsmanship and effective communication techniques with players, parents, and coaches.
FITNESS & HEALTHY LIVING
Learn key nutrition and fitness components to maintain a healthy lifestyle and organize a fitness program for children and adults.
Learn how children develop, the importance of positive discipline, safety procedures, and how to plan and implement age appropriate procedures while working with children.
Learn water front and pool safety including how to avoid accidents and manage emergency situations.
