Every parent wants what’s best for their children and for them to thrive and reach their full potential. The Peeples family knew enrolling their son in preschool and extended care at the Y was an important next step, and were amazed at their son’s progress.
“Our family have been members of the YMCA for almost 10 years. We initially joined as a way for my wife and me to get some exercise. We typically visit 2-4 times per week. Sometimes we meet friends for a run on the track, use the equipment, or even attend a workout class like Zumba or Strong by Zumba. Our children, four boys, were immediately attracted to the pool. Seeing their interest, it was important to us that they learned to swim. We enrolled 3 of the 4 into swim lessons offered by the Y. We have also utilized many other classes the Y has offered for our kids including basketball, tee-ball, flag football and parkour.
Maybe the most impactful experience our membership brought us was with our youngest son. He has anxiety, especially with new people and change. We felt it was important for us to enroll him in a 4K program that included wrap around care. We enrolled him in the Y's 4K program, and it was a difficult transition as we suspected it would be. However, the staff was more than willing to work with us and with our son to find out how he could be successful. They understood he needed a little time to get acclimated each day so they created a little area he could use to do that. The team spent a little extra time developing a reward system to highlight when he had positive behaviors, answering emails, and checking in with us frequently. We were so nervous about him starting kindergarten, but the Y staff generated a list of for his upcoming teachers of tools they used for him to be successful. Because of this, he was able to make a remarkable transition into 5K. A special thanks Ms. Jen, Miss Trisha, Miss Rose, Ms. S & Ms. Lynde!”
With your help, we can make sure all children and families have the opportunity to learn, play, and grow.
