Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and illness until EMS personnel take over. Includes First Aid and CPR/AED for Lifeguards certifications. Participants must be 15 years old when class starts, must attend all class hours and pass written and swimming tests. Certification is not guaranteed. Water test: 300 yard swim demonstrating proficiency with front crawl and breast stroke, 2 minutes of treading water, and completion of a timed sprint with surface dive and recovery of a 10 pound brick. No refund or YMCA online credit after registered. Must bring a photo ID to the first class.
*Blended Learning format combines online knowledge acquisition and in-person skill sessions. Online coursework will be provided and must be completed prior to the first day of class. Must be able to pass a swim skills pre-test. Manuals and mask must be purchased separately.
