YMCA Trainings & Recertifications

For any YMCA Certification: To register for these classes, please call the YMCA and ask to speak with the Aquatics Director. They will call you and direct you on how to register online. Payment is taken first day of the class at the Business Desk.

  YMCA Lifeguard Training Course (Ages 16 & up)

Must be able to pass a swim skills pre-test.

Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and illness until EMS personnel take over. Students must attend every day of the course and pass swimming, rescue and written tests. Includes certifications in YMCA Lifeguard, CPR for the Professional Rescuer, Basic First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen. Certification is not guaranteed. Prerequisite water test: 500 meter swim demonstrating proficiency with front crawl, breast stroke, side stroke and elementary backstroke, 2 minutes of treading water and complete several surface dives. 

  YMCA Lifeguard Training Recertification Course (Ages 16 & up)

Must be able to pass a swim skills pre-test.

Participants must be currently certified in YMCA Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer or CPR/AED for Lifeguards and Emergency Oxygen Administration. Participants must bring their current certification card to class along with their participant manual. 

  YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor Course (YSL) (Ages 16 & up)

Must be able to pass a swim skills pre-test.

An introductory course for people interested in teaching parent/child, preschool, youth and adult swimming lessons. PREREQUISITES: currently certified in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Emergency Oxygen, and Basic First Aid. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate proficiency for five out of the following six strokes: front crawl, back crawl, breast stroke, side stroke, elementary backstroke, and butterfly. Participants should come prepared for both classroom and pool work.

  YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor (YSL) Recertification Course (Ages 16 & up)

Must be able to pass a swim skills pre-test.

Recertification focuses on more in-depth knowledge of YMCA Swim Lessons and stroke mechanics. Sharing and problem solving between instructors is an integral part of this recertification course. Participants must have a current certification in YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor along with current safety certifications in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, Emergency Oxygen, and Basic First Aid. Participants should come prepared for both classroom and pool work.


 

American Red Cross Trainings & Recertifications

  Red Cross Lifeguard Training (Ages 15 & up)
Must be able to pass a swim skills pre-test.
 
Provides entry-level participants the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and illness until EMS personnel take over. Includes Waterfront, First Aid and CPR/AED for Lifeguards certifications. Participants must attend all class hours and pass written and swimming tests. Certification is not guaranteed. Water test: 550 yard swim, tread water for 2 minutes, 15 yard underwater swim, and 9 foot retrieval of 10 pound object the first day of class. No refund or YMCA online credit after registered. Must bring a photo ID to the first class.   
  Red Cross Lifeguard Recertification

Must be able to pass a swim skills pre-test.

Recertify your Red Cross lifeguarding certification. You must attend all class hours and pass written and swimming tests. Recertification is not guaranteed. Water test: 300-yard swim, tread water for 2 minutes, and retrieve a 10-pound object 9 feet deep the first day of class. No refund or YMCA online credit after registered. 

  Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED

The purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid/CPR/AED program is to help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. This course teaches skills that participants need to know to give immediate care to a suddenly injured or ill person until more advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. Available for corporate groups.

  Red Cross First Aid & CPR/AED For Professional Rescuers

The purpose of the American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers and Health Care Providers course is to teach those with a duty to act (professional rescuers and health care providers) the knowledge and skills needed to respond appropriately to breathing and cardiac emergencies. This includes the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED) to care for a victim experiencing cardiac arrest.
